52 Ancestors: #28 - Wymer Teague (1804 IN to 1920 KS)

Wymer Teague (and this is just a guess at the spelling) was born in Oct 1804 in Indiana.  He married a woman named Meleta (also a variety of spellings) probably about 1843.  Teague has been enumerated as Teay, Teag, Tegue and Teague, as well as possibly a couple of others.  In 1860 the family was in Spencer County, Indiana.  I have been unable to find them in 1870.  In 1880 they are in Newton County, Missouri and in 1900 they are in Sumner County, Kansas.

Wymer and Melita had six children.
Elijah Teague (1841-1913) married Elisa Tuley.  More information about them is on their own blog posting.
William Teague (abt 1846 IN to after 1860).  No further information is known about William.
Mary Teague (abt 1850 IN – after 1860). No other information is known about her.
Ellis (or Elias) Teague(1854 IN – aft 1920) married Evaline, last name unknown, about 1875.  They had two sons and one daughter.
Samuel Teague (abt 1858 IN – after 1860). No further information is known about him.
Jane Alice Teague (1865-1953) married Alpha Frisby Crowder in 1880 in Neosho, Newton County, Missouri.  At this time I don’t know if they had any children.

If you would like to collaborate on this family, please contact me.  I would especially like information about Elijah as well as Wymer and Meleta.

52 Ancestors: #27 - Elijah J. Teague (1841-1913)

Elijah Teague and his family have been enumerated in many different ways, including Teay, Teag, Tegue and Teague.  I am spelling Teague in this manner because it is the spelling I have in some family papers.

Elijah was the son of Wymer (Wimer, Winer, etc.) Teague and Meleta, possibly Lamar or LaMar.  Elijah was born in Taney County, Missouri.  In many online family trees this county is listed as Ganey County; however there never was a Ganey County in Missouri.

Elijah married Eliza Tuley on 21 Dec 1965 in Gentryville, Spencer County, Indiana.  Elijah and Eliza had six children.

William Andrew Teague (1866 IN to after 1940) married Mary Ann Cornelison and they had 10 children I believe.
Mary Olive Teague (1871-1906) first married Daniel Reese and later married Jacob Henry Severs.  She died after giving birth in 1906.  More detailed information about her is on her own blog page.
Emma Teague (1874 IN to after 1880).
Mattie Teague (1879 KS – after 1880)
James Charles Teague (1881 MO-1964 KS) – married Ida Mae Hooten about 1919 and they had two sons.
John Franklin Teague (1889 AR-1939 KS) married Ella Decker about 1918. I don’t believe they had any children.

Are you researching this Teague Line?  If so, I’d like to share information.

GRIP 2014 - Packing List

GRIP begins in 2 weeks and 1 day.  I'm excited!!!!

I am starting to plan for packing, because I'll have to do some shopping first.  I mentioned some of these things before, but I'm trying to consolidate my list, for me as well as for anyone else who may be attending.

ethernet cable - for the room (there's WIFI in the classrooms and the lounge area)
hair dryer - this isn't a hotel
body wash and hand soap - again this isn't a hotel
drinking glass
umbrella and/or rain jacket - the Pittsburgh weather is a little different from Phoenix weather
dressing in layers - who knows whether the classrooms will be hot or cold
business cards - an easy way of giving out your name and contact info to classmates as well as in dining room
computer power cord and extension cord
walking shoes - the LaRoche campus is beautiful

small bag to carry to and from class - for syllabus, computer, pens/pencils, etc.

So, what am I forgetting?
Oh, yes.  A list of books I already have so I can shop at Maia's books
the normal clothes, toiletries, etc.
cell phone charger

Yes, the hotel provides sheets and towels, but a fitted twin sheet is helpful because the mattress covers are slippery and fitted twin sheets don't stay tucked in very well.

52 Ancestors: #26 - Mary Olive Teague Reese Severs (1871 IN – 1906 KS)

Mary Olive Teague was born on 1 Aug 1871 in Spencer County, Indiana to Elijah and Eliza Teague.  In the 1880 census, Mary and her family were in Buffalo, Newton County, Missouri.
On 1 Aug 1886 Mary married Daniel Reese (or Reece) in Benton County, Arkansas.  I don’t believe they had any children.  I don’t know if Daniel died or if they got a divorced.
On 12 Oct 1891, Mary Olive married Jacob Henry Severs in Neosho, Newton County, Missouri.  In the 1900 census, Mary was enumerated as Tige and she and Jacob had 4 children.  Two more children were born but Mary died at the time that their daughter Mary was born in1906. This daughter also died at this time.

The children of Jacob Henry Severs, sometimes called James H. Severs, and Mary Olive were these:
Emma Mae Severs, 1892-1957 – married William Buford “Boots” Bumgardner about 1910 in Kansas. She then married Robert James Hatcher in 1926.
Elijah Daniel Severs (1895-1971).  Elijah married May Lucille, last name unknown.  They both died in Seattle, King County, Washington.  I believe they had one daughter, Carra Severs, born about 1925.
Mattie Neice Severs (1895-1975)married Leander Hudgin on 17 Sep 1915 in Cowley County, Kansas.  They had three daughters: Shirley, Mary, and Ruby.
Mamie Ivy Severs (1898-1906) died in Gueda Springs, Kansas, at age 8.
Jess Harlan Severs (1901-1968) married Katherine Elizabeth Trice on 6 June 1925 in Pittsburgh, Crawford County, Kansas. They had two daughters.

Jacob Henry Severs married Dollie Getrude Collins on 23 February 1924 in Newton County Missouri. However, in a marriage record on ancestry.com the notes state that James Henry Severs married Dollie Gertrude Stenfield on that date.  Therefore, I don’t know of Dollie was married before she married Jacob or not.  I do know that Jacob and Dollie divorced before 1940 because she married William Franklin Christian.
I am descended through Jess Harlan.  If you would like to share information, please contact me.  I would like to collaborate with you.

GRIP 2014 - Planning #1

GRIP, the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh, doesn't begin for over a month.  I always like to do some planning in advance, and with my schedule for the next three weeks, I need to do even a little more advanced planning.

I received an email from Elissa and Debbie, the GRIP co-directors, regarding schedules, etc.  Since I'm flying and won't have a car, parking isn't an issue.  But making sure that I have everything packed that I will need is more important because I won't be able to just run out and pick something up.

With over 200 students enrolled in GRIP this year, there are going to be two lines for lunches and breaks.  It appears that breakfast and dinner will be all together, which is great, since I'd like to be able to see some of the students in other sessions.

I have completed my reading for the Practical Genetic Genealogy class, but I'm going to reread some of the material since I feel I will understand it better after my DNA day at Jamboree.  I also may do some other reading (if I can fit it in).

So, what do I really need to remember?  I'll probably update this list and post it again in a couple of weeks.

Alarm clock
Drinking glass
Hair dryer
Fitted bottom sheet (those mattress covers are slippery and the flat sheets just don't stay tucked in)

That's all for now.  These are items that we often have in hotel rooms that aren't in dorm rooms.  Hope this helps you all get started.  See you in a month.
