52 Ancestors: #24 - Elisa Thurman (1829 MO – 1914 MO)

Elisa Thurman was born June 1829 in Missouri.  According to the 1850 census her father was Frances Thurman.  Also in that census record was a boy Jesse H. Thurman, age 12, living with in the family as well as a B.F. McCoy (male) and Mary Ann McCoy, both born about 1830 and Parilla Powell born about 1827 in Kentucky and James Powell, age 2, born in Missouri.  Some researchers then state that Mary Ann and Parilla were also daughters of Frances and would therefore be sisters to Elisa.  I have been unable to find any documentation for these statements.

Elisa married Daniel Severs about 1853-1854, probably in Missouri.  They had 7 children that I am fairly confident in, but the 1900 census shows that Elisa had 9 children and that 5 were still living at that time.  So perhaps Sidney Parala Kaiser and Daniel Severs (1863-aft 1870) were the two children who died before 1900, leaving 5 of the following children still living at that time.  The children here are also listed in the blog posting for Daniel Severs.

John Severs (1855 MO – aft 1910) married Sarah Jane Crabtree

Sidney Parala Severs (1855-abt 1877) She is interesting because a girl was enumerated in one census as     Sidney and another as Parala.  I believe she married Jacob Kiser/Kaiser/Kizer, etc. in 1874 in Arkansas.

Frances Severs [female] (1859 MO-1908 MO) married Tilman Akers in 1875 in Missouri.  Sometimes his name is spelled with two “l”s.

Daniel Severs (1863 MO-aft 1870 MO) I was unable to find another Daniel with the correct age in the 1880 census.  No death or marriage information has been found for him.

Jacob Henry Severs (1867 MO-1950 KS) who married Mary Olive Teague who died in childbirth in 1906.  He then married Dollie Gertrude Collins, or Stenfield, in 1924.

Eliza Jane Severs (1869 AR – 1938 CA) who married James Snow about 1883 in Missouri.  Even though Eliza died in California, it appears that she was buried in Missouri.

Nathan Payne Severs (1875 KS – 1964 OK) married Luella O’Bannion in 1902 in McDonald County, Arkansas.  Luella died in 1913 and Nathan married Stella, whose last name is unknown but she had been married to a Joseph Fitts, or Felts, or…. before she married Nathan in 1915, also in Arkansas.

I have been unable to find Elisa or any of the children in the 1880 census.  In the 1900 census Elisa is living in Indian Territory, now Oklahoma.  She is listed as head of household.  In the 1910 census Elisa is living with son Nathan P. and his wife Luella, in Oklahoma.  Elisa was buried in Seneca Cemetery in Missouri.
