52 Ancestors - #44 - William Winstead (abt 1794 NC– abt 1862 KY)

William Winstead was born about 1794 in North Carolina.  His parents were William Winstead and Sarah Lumpkin and he may have been one of at least 9 children.  In 1816 William married Sarah Morrow in Person County, North Carolina. The spelling on Winstead could easily be Winsted also.

William and Sarah had at least four children.
Alexander Taylor Winstead (1817 NC – 1887 KY) married Priscilla Ann Trice in 1838 and they had at least 8 children
Mary Ann Winstead (1821 NC – 1889 MO) married Charles Yancy Trice in 1841.  They had at least 14 children.
William H. Winstead (1825 NC – abt 1895 KY) married Alafar [numerous spellings] Hibbs about 1845.  I believe they had at least 9 children.
John Calvin Winstead (bef 1837 KY – after 1860 MO) married Roena.  No further information is known about this family.

After Sarah died about 1846, William married a woman named Eleanor.  I have been unable to find any children from this union.  Eleanor died about 1857, I believe.

William then married Rebecca Chandler in 1857 in Hopkins County, Kentucky.  She may have been married before because she seems to have been born about 1786 in North Carolina.  However, I am unaware of any children she may have had before her marriage to William Winstead, or even during her marriage to William.

William died about 1862 in Hopkins County, Kentucky and Rebecca died sometime thereafter because she is listed in the 1870 census as wd.

William and Sarah had at least 6 children.

Charles Yancy Trice married Mary Ann Winstead about 1841 in Hopkins County, Kentucky.  Charles and Mary Ann had at least 14 children.  Mary Ann Winstead and Alexander Taylor Winstead were siblings.

Unity Trice (1824 KY – 1893 KY) married Samuel W. Cavanah [various spellings also] in 1842 in Hopkins County, Kentucky.  I believe that they had two sons.

Dabney Nelson Trice (1826 KY – 1903 MO) married Rebecca Lancaster in 1853 in Missouri.  I believe they had two daughters and two sons.

Unity died in June 1836 in Hopkins or Webster County, Kentucky and was probably buried in the Trice Cemetery in Webster County, Kentucky.
